INTERWOVEN MAGAZINE IMAGES
I create intricate handwoven compositions by merging multiple magazine images, exploring the relationship between mass media and daily life. This work illustrates how connections form and patterns unfold, emphasizing the overlap of commercial imagery with personal experience. Each piece is intimate in scale and rich in detail, reflecting hours of careful, repetitive work. Through the act of transforming mechanical reproductions using manual techniques, I bridge commercial and traditional processes. This approach also allows me to acknowledge my Native American relatives and the kind of objects I grew up surrounded by, while engaging with contemporary imagery and information. Every work is smaller than twelve inches in any direction, and each has a unique front and back. Double-sided frames preserve and reveal the entirety of the piece. Additionally, select images are reproduced as 30 x 40 inch framed prints. |
